Young Clarets fall to defeat

1 December 2018

Youth team fall to second consecutive defeat in U18 Professional Development League, with 3-1 loss at home to Nottingham Forest.

Forest took the lead through Riley Marbottle's header.

Minutes later the visitors saw a peanlty saved by Kai Calderbank-Park.

However, on the hour mark the Clarets equalised, as Edon Pruti nodded home a corner.

But just four minutes later, Forest regained the lead through Keith Asare.

And the away side ensured all three points in the 80th minute, as Jack Sherlock stroked home a third.

The opening 30 minutes of the match were very even, neither side getting any real grip of the ball as the rain poured down at the Barnfield Training Centre.

Burnley then came close through Lewis Richardson, who saw his close range strike palmed away by Forest stopper Michael Statham.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead, as Forest skipper Marbottle rose highest at a corner and glanced home the opening goal of the afternoon.

And just minutes later the away side had the chance to double the lead, as Asare's spot-kick was excellently denied by Calderbank-Park to keep the score at 0-1.

It was the Clarets who struck next though, as Pruti climbed high at the back post and powered a header past Statham to draw things level.

Although, Forest regained the lead minutes later, as Asare dinked a delighful ball over the on-rushing Calderbank-Park.

And with 10 minutes to go the Midlands' side added a third, as Sherlock was put through on goal an slotted home from inside the area.
