Danny Cadamarteri's side came from behind to take all three points at Florence Park this afternoon. Todd Miller gave United the lead, before skipper Michael Fowler equalised for the Clarets just before the break. Half-time substitute Rhys Fenlon then struck the winner in the 54th minute.
The home side came close to taking the lead early on, Miller’s cross fell to Jake Hutchinson at the back post, who saw his effort was denied by the feet of Clarets’ keeper Harry Allen.
Burnley then had their first real opportunity, as Fowler turned into the area before forcing Chandler Hallett into a smart save.
Fowler then had another chance shortly after, Terry Mupariwa played a delightful ball into the striker who brought it down well before firing straight at Hallett.
However, the home side did take the lead with 35 minutes played, Sayer whipped in a low cross which Miller latched onto at the far post and poked home to give United the lead.
The lead didn’t last too long, ten minutes later Fowler took advantage of the U’s playing out from the back and smashed home the Clarets’ equaliser just before the break, the striker's second goal in as many games.
Cadamarteri made a half-time change, with Mitch George making way for Rhys Fenlon.
Fenlon made an instant impact early in the second half, the winger fired home to give Burnley the lead after a neat build-up play.
Colchester did come close to replying minutes later, Miller slid in at the back post however his effort sailed well over Allen’s bar.
Despite the host's best efforts at pulling one back, Burnley managed to hold on and see out the Essex side to secure another three points.
