Youths Maintain Solid Start

18 September 2017

Danny Cadermarteri's youth team extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in West London.

First half goals from Leighton Egan (below) and Tristan Jumeau secured all three points for the young Clarets.

Burnley were close to taking the lead with less than a minute gone as Egan picked up the ball just outside the area, with the goalkeeper in no-mans land.

However instead of a first time hit, the striker switched it on to his left foot and shot just wide of the post.

However, with just 11 minutes gone the Clarets did take the lead as Jumeau fired the ball home from just outside the area.

Minutes later it was two as Egan finished off a nice move after slotting in home from close range.

In a game that Burnley were dominating, it could have been three before half time as Egan's shot was cleared off the line by Rangers defender Joe Cussins.

Early in the second half, Jordan Cropper had a chance after Kian Yari picked out the forward who hit a first time shot which rolled just wide past Myles Bowman's goal.

The home side looked to try pull one back and came close when Jardell Adeyinka fired an effort from range that forced a great save from Adam Bruce.

Burnley then did brilliantly to manage the last 20 minutes and keep out an attacking QPR side seeking a lifeline.

The youth team are next action on Saturday (23rd) at home to Sheffield Wednesday (11am KO), after the two fixtures were reversed.

BURNLEY: Bruce, Moss, Clarke, Thomas, Mpofu, Jumeau, Kershaw, Yari, McNeil (Samms 82), Cropper (Mupariwa 70), Egan (Fowler 63).
