Young Clarets Face U's Test

U18s bid to make it four games without defeat

8 September 2017

The Clarets’ youth team looks to extend its unbeaten run to four games when they take on Colchester United at the Barnfield Training Centre on Saturday morning (kick-off 11am).

Danny Cadamarteri’s side is undefeated since the opening day of the campaign and sit third in the north group of the U18 Professional Development League.

However, after letting slip a 3-0 lead before grabbing a point with an Oliver Younger equaliser at Ipswich a week ago, the Clarets will hope to get back to winning ways against a Colchester which has won one of its opening four games and shipped 15 goals.

The Clarets’ 16-man squad includes Younger and Dwight McNeil, who featured in Burnley’s mid-week Lancashire Senior Cup defeat to Preston.

But Scott Wilson is not available as he is training with the under-23s, who play at Crystal Palace on Monday.

And leading scorer Michael Fowler misses out through injury.

Burnley from: Bruce, Wusiewicz, Moss, Thomas, Mupariwa, Mpofu, Samms, Kershaw, Clarke, Younger, Jumeau, Meredith, Yari, Cropper, Egan, McNeil.

Burnley Youths 4 Colchester Utd 2

9 September 2017

The youth team extended their unbeaten run to four games after defeating Colchester United 4-2 at Barnfield.

The Clarets, who scored four last week at Ipswich, got off to a dream start when Dwight McNeil's corner was nodded in at the back post by Tristan Jumeau.

Minutes later Danny Cadermarteri's side doubled the lead, when Jordan Cropper cut the ball back to McNeil in the area, who rifled an effort into the top corner with a sweet strike.

The Clarets were cruising and had their third just after 20 minutes, as Cropper finished off a nice move after Leighton Egan found the attacker in the area.

There was a more sedate start to proceedings in the second half, and despite coming close to a fourth, it was the away side who got the next goal, following a clever cut-back.

And as the Clarets pushed to restore their two-goal lead, Colchester broke to set up a nervy end to the game with a second.

However, Burnley were able to hold United at bay before sealing a third win in four matches ni stoppage time, as Kian Yari found the net from 35 yards, after Cropper tackled the goalkeeper in no-man's land.

The young Clarets are next in action away to QPR next Saturday (16th).

BURNLEY: Bruce, Moss, Clarke, Younger, Mpofu, Jumeau (Meredith 65), Yari, Kershaw, McNeil (Mupariwa 60), Cropper, Egan (Samms 70).
