Youths Aim to Clip Bluebirds' Wings

Cardiff test for youths'opening away trip

18 August 2017

The Clarets hit the road for their opening away game in the U18 Professional Development League with a trip to face Cardiff City on Saturday morning.

The youth team started life in the league with a 4-1 home defeat to Watford last Saturday.

But coach Danny Cadamarteri wasn’t too disappointed with a performance that saw his side compete well before being punished for some defensive lapses.

Cadamarteri sticks with a similar squad for the game at the University of South Wales (kick-off 11pm).

However, there is a place in the travelling party for under-16 player Mitchell George.

Cardiff started their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Hull City.

The Clarets will have live up-dates from the game via @Burnleyofficial

Burnley: Bruce, Egan, Mpofu, Kershaw, Clarke, Moss, Jumeau, Mupariwa, Fowler, Yari, Meredith, Wusiewicz, Samms, Thomas, Harris, George.

Youths Up And Running With Win At Cardiff

21 August 2017

Danny Cademarteri's U18s earned their first three points of the campaign with a hard-fought win away at Cardiff City.

First half goals from Kian Yari and Michael Fowler proved enough for the Clarets, despite Isaak Davies pulling one back for City before the break.

Kian Yari

Burnley got off to a flying start, enjoying a lot of possession, and came close when Tristan Jumeau fired a shot on goal that was tipped just wide by Bluebirds’ keeper George Ratcliffe.

However, minutes later the young Clarets did take the lead as Jumeau teed up Yari in the area, who poked the ball home to give the visitors a dream start.

The home side failed to have any clear chances as the clock just passed the 15th minute mark.

But at the other end Fowler had other ideas and, after receiving the ball from Jumeau, the forward slotted home his second in as many games to double the advantage.

Michael Fowler

The Clarets then came close to a third when Dylan Meredith's cross was nearly met by Fowler at the far post.

Cardiff did grab a lifeline shortly before the break when Wales U18 international Davies latched on to Sion Spence's dinked pass and coolly stroked the ball home past Adam Bruce.

And with Burnley creating fewer chances as the half wore on - with a chance from Terry Mupawira narrowly over the bar just before the hour mark – it was City who pressed for an equaliser.

However, their best chance came when Davies' free-kick from just outside the box was terrifically tipped wide by Bruce to preserve the lead.

BURNLEY: Bruce, Egan (Thomas 62), Moss, Clarke, Mpofu, Meredith (Samms 64), Kershaw, Mupariwa, Yari, Jumeau, Fowler (Harris 74).
