Brian Easton joined the Clarets from Hamilton Academicals for an initial fee of £350,000 in July, 2009.
The Scotland under-21 international agreed a three-year deal at Turf Moor.
But the young left-back found himself back at Hamilton by the end of the season as he was loaned back to the Scottish Premier League side, starting a further dozen games for the New Douglas Park club.
Easton, who has also played for Scotland B, previously started over 100 games for the Accies after making his debut as an 18-year-old.
In his first season at Burnley, he made just one senior start in the Carling Cup but in 2010/11 proved himself as a valuable squad player.
The Scot was an effective deputy for Danny Fox at left back and went on to start a dozen games.
