The former Clarets' trainee didn't taste first-team action at Turf Moor during the 2009/10 campaign.
The young forward was loaned out to Falkirk for the first half of the campaign and made almost a dozen appearances in the Scottish Premier League.
MacDonald then spent a spell out injured following his return to Turf Moor but proved his well-being in the closing stage of the season with some impressive run-outs in the reserves.
Burnley's former youth team player of the year made his breakthrough at the end of the 2007/08 campaign with a couple of substitute appearances at senior level.
He made half a dozen appearances from the bench the following season and the Scotland under-19 international will be looking for further first-team football in 2010/11.
