In his first 'real' season at Turf Moor, Rodriguez showed bags of potential.
Making two starts for the Clarets, and twenty-six futher appearances from the bench, Rodriguez wanted to prove he was worthy of starting week-in-week-out.
His first ever goal for the Clarets came in the Carling Cup Third Round against Roy Hodgson's Fulham in September 2008, showing great composure to bag the winning goal in extra-time.
A late goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup semi-final in January 2009 appeared to have secured a place at Wembley, only for a last minute Roman Pavlychenko goal to brake Burnley hearts.
A wonderstrike in the 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in March 2009 turned out to be the Burnley-born strikers last goal of the season.
And as a reward for his startling progress the youngster, whose initial two-year contract ran until May 2010, was awarded a new two-year deal in August 2009.
A skilful attacking player who arrived at the club from Barden High School in Burnley, Jay has progressed impressively through the ranks.
He celebrated his first pro contract at Turf Moor ahead of the 2007/08 season with a goal on his senior debut in a pre-season friendly at Wrexham.
The teenage striker had been the only second year apprentice retained with the Clarets following the 2006/07 season, after starting at the Centre of Excellence for several seasons and becoming a regular in the youth team.
Jay made the senior bench for the first time in the Championship game against Bristol City at Turf Moor in December 2007, appearing as a late substitute.
And in January 2008, he joined Scottish First Division side Stirling Albion on a long-term loan until the 2007/08 season.
After training with the Clarets team during the week the teen travelled up to Scotland to play for Stirling at the weekend.
The move was a masterstroke by Burnley boss Owen Coyle, giving Rodriguez regular first team football, experience and in-turn making him a better player.
And following his goals in the promotion-winning Championship campaign of 2009/10, when the Clarets juggled league and cup runs to startling effect, the striker will be hoping to step up his game in the Premier League.
