Steven Fletcher's first and last season as a Claret ended with an impressive 12-goal haul to justify his record breaking transfer fee.

Burnley doubled their previous biggest outlay to secure the services of the highly-rated Hibernian striker for a £3million fee on a four-year deal in July 2009.

However, relegation led to the Scottish striker being lured back to the Premier League by Wolves, in a deal that, although 'undisclosed', amounts to a record transfer fee received by the Clarets, smashing the previous £3.25m paid by Glasgow Rangers for Kyle Lafferty in 2008.

Fletcher opened his account for the Clarets in the Carling Cup but had to wait until October for his Premier League goal in a win over Birmingham City at October.

He then continued to score on a consistent basis but his all-round contribution meant that he also brought more to the team than just goals.

His hold-up and link play marked the Scotland international as a genuine top-flight talent as he proved, notably against Liverpool and Tottenham in the closing weeks of the season, that he could compete with the best.

Fletcher had started his career at Hibs and scored 52 goals in nearly 190 appearances for the Easter Road outfit to mark himself down as one of Scotland's brightest young talents.

That was reflected in winning the Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year Award in 2008 and his progression from the Scotland under-19s and under-21s to the full national side where he looks set to be a fixture for years to come.
