Burnley signed Peruvian international goalkeeper Diego Penny in June 2008 after being granted a work permit on appeal.
The opening day defeat against Sheffield Wednesday was to be Penny's only appearance of the 2008/09 season, as Brian Jensen's excellent form kept him out of the Clarets first team.
The 6ft 5in stopper - full-name Diego Alonso Penny Valdez - was captain of club side Coronel Bolognesi, who play in Peru's Primera Division.
Penny made over 200 club appearances for Bolognesi, who have twice lifted the Copa Peru and also won the 2007 Primera Division Clausura, in turn qualifying for the 2008 Copa Libertadores.
Lima-born Valdez is currently the number one Peruvian goalkeeper, playing for the South Americans in two 2010 World Cup qualifiers in November 2007, which resulted in a credible 1-1 draw with Brazil, followed by a 5-1 defeat to Ecuador three days later.
