Super subs Robbie Blake and Chris Eagles leapt off the bench to seal a sensational second half fightback from the super Clarets.

The two strikers combined with just minutes remaining and the scores locked at 1-1 for Blake to slot home his first goal since March - and celebrate with a cheeky display!

And Eagles sealed the three points with a magical shot from 25 yards in the 90th minute.

All this after Elliott Ward had given the Sky Blues the interval lead with a controversial penalty for a debatable foul by Graham Alexander on Michael Mifsud.

Michael's Duff's first goal since August 2007 levelled things up seven minutes after the break. .

And the stage was set for a spectacular finale as Owen Coyle earned the plaudits for some brave and masterful management.

It was as you were for the Clarets, who lined up as they had at the weekend when Birmingham City were lucky to escape Turf Moor with a point.

That meant that Alexander, as expected, notched up his 700th full appearance in the city of his birth.

A lively start saw Jay Tabb and Wade Elliott swap shots off target before the Clarets winger's sixth minute cross was headed over by in-form Chris McCann.

Possession was being squandered far too easily by both sides in a scrappy opening quarter of an hour.

But midway through the half Burnley created their first real opening, again with Elliott the instigator.

Taking on Danny Fox, his cross found Martin Paterson, but his header lacked the pace to arc over keeper Kieren Westwood.

Elliott again blazed over from a tightening angle in the 27th minute following a sweeping move down the right involving Joey Gudjonsson, Paterson and Alexander.

Almost everything of note was coming from the boot of Elliott and the visitors were within a whisker of taking the lead 10 minutes before half time.

This time Elliott popped up on the left to curl in a free kick that the inrushing Michael Duff was a bootlace away from converting.

But in the 37th minute City were awarded a controversial penalty.

Isaac Osbourne and Leon Best combined in acres of space to feed Michael Mifsud, who turned Alexander on the edge of the area and hit the deck.

Referee Mick Thorpe had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, leaving Alexander incensed as he remonstrated with the City striker.

But when the dust settled, Elliott Ward hammered home despite Jensen guessing the right way.

Half time probably came at a good time for the Clarets, after conceding the lead in a half of few clear cut chances.

Owen Coyle made no changes at the break, as Burnley looked to battle their way back.

And they almost got the perfect start as an early Elliott free kick was deflected just wide.

However, from the resulting corner, the ball fell to Duff who lashed the ball home at the far post after taking a touch.

City's response was immediate and Jensen needed to be on guard to hold Osbourne's long range drive.

And when Leon Best cut inside onto his left foot, the resulting shot looked destined for the far corner only to thankfully bobble wide.

Yet another Elliott cross caused confusion on the City ranks as the clock ticked down to 70 minutes.

But three quick corners came to nothing as the Sky Blues nervously stood firm.

Eagles' introduction added more attacking intent, which would soon reap dividends - but only after the hard-working Steven Thompson waltzed through the entire Coventry defence, only to slot the ball wide under pressure but with just Westwood to beat.

Blake and Jay Rodriguez then replaced the injured McCann and tiring Thompson as Coyle rolled the dice with time running out.

And what an impact Blake had - racing onto Eagles' precise through ball to chip past a stunned Westwood.

Eagles then added the icing to the cake himself, looking up and rifling high into the net to cap an incredible night.
