Tyrone Mears looks set to return from injury to face Leicester City on Saturday but Michael Duff could be facing a longer spell on the sidelines.
Mears missed last the Clarets' 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town last Saturday after taking a knock on the shin.
But with replacement David Edgar due to serve a one-match ban for his dismissal at Portman Road, boss Brian Laws is ready to welcome Mears back into the right-back role against the Foxes at Turf Moor.
"Unfortunately David Edgar, who had a great game, has had come out of the side because of a sending off," said Laws.
"Ty has trained for the last couple of days and we are looking for him to be fit at the weekend.
"It was a minor knock and he has trained so are expectations are that he should be okay for the weekend."
Duff also missed the game at Ipswich after limping out of the Clarets' season-opening win over Nottingham Forest.
And Laws revealed that the luckless defender is struggling to shake off a troublesome calf strain.

Michael Duff is still on the injured list
"It's a little bit frustrating for Michael," Laws told Clarets Player.
"The injury is minor but it's keeping him out for longer than we first thought and maybe we might have to investigate a bit further.
"At the moment he's a frustrated player. Quite clearly he wants to play and he's a great lad and he's determined to play his football.
"Unfortunately his calf isn't letting him do that so we have to make sure we evaluate his injury as quickly as possible we can to make a clear vision of where we are going to go with it."
