Nugent Joy At Clarets' Fightback

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

Goal hero David Nugent was happy with a point as the Clarets battled back to draw 1-1 with Stoke City and give themselves a platform to climb towards Premier League safety.

In-form Nugent headed home his third goal in five games to cancel out Tuncay's first-half goal and cap an impressive Clarets fight-back at Turf Moor.

And the on-loan striker believes Brian Laws' men emerged with a decent result to take into Saturday's crunch home game with Wolves - who are now only above Burnley on goal difference.

"It was a good point, especially after the first half," said Nugent.

"We weren't at our best in the first half. We had too many long balls and their defence was just chewing on them.

"The gaffer gave us a bit of a rollicking at half-time and we came out in the second half and got the goal.

"Pato put a great ball in and I managed to get on the end of it and we pushed on after that and tried to win the game.

Nugent heads home

"Chrissy Eagles had a couple of shots, I had another chance and Kev (McDonald) has gone just wide, so we've had chances to win the game but we'll settle for the point which makes it a must-win game now against Wolves on Saturday.

"It will be a tough game against Wolves but if we win we go above them, so it would be nice to do that and get out of the relegation zone."

The predatory Nugent is pleased with his own goal return and is looking to stay in the groove for the rest of the campaign.

He added: " I've only started 12 games for Burnley and I've got six, so it's one in two games for me now.

"I want to keep on going and score as many as I can and try to keep Burnley in the Premier League."
