The Clarets' second string endured a painful evening in Wigan as they were thumped by the bottom club in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North.
Burnley were outplayed at the Robin Park Arena as they slumped to a third successive defeat on a night of few positives for first-team coach Stuart Gray and the rest of the backroom staff.
Jay Rodriguez got another 90 minutes under his belt as he works his way back towards full match fitness but had few sighters of goal.
And although strike partner Frederic Nimani went close a couple of times, almost all the attacking flair came from Wigan's young side.
Rodriguez threatened early on but the home side went ahead after 14 minutes whenJon Routledge pulled the ball back for Rachid Bouaouzan to drill home.
Four minutes later it was 2-0 when Callum McManaman's shot took a large deflection to beat Diego Penny.
And Wigan's third goal on the stroke of half-time also contained a large element of luck as Tomasz Cywka looked well off-side as he met a pass from Tomasz Kupisz to calmly shoot home.

Jay Rodriguez gained more useful game time
But Wigan's impressive display earned them their slice of fortune and the Latics could have gone further ahead through Cywka, who was enjoying a field day down Burnley's left side and forced Penny to save his angled shot.
Burnley had enjoyed a brief period of control when Nimani lashed a shot just wide but any hopes of a second-half fightback were quickly snuffed out.
Joe Holt crashed a low skidding effort past Penny after 55 minutes and after Nimani had forced Lee Nicholls to save at the other end Wigan went 5-0 up with 66 minutes gone.
McManaman was again the beneficiary as he pounced to slot home from 15 yards after the Clarets had failed to clear.
The striker was then denied his hat-trick by a Penny save 18 minutes from the end, while Burnley's only hope of a late consolation saw Rodriguez put a long-range effort just over the bar.
