England Sink Without Cork

Posted on: Thu 04 Mar 2010

Jack Cork was prevented from winning his fourth cap after being overlooked by under-21 coach Stuart Pearce for England's 2-1 defeat to Greece on Wednesday night.

The on-loan Clarets midfielder earned a call-up to the national squad after arriving at Turf Moor from Chelsea in January.

But Cork did not make the final 18 as England's hopes of qualifying for the Under-21 European Championship finals suffered a blow at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium.

Clarets defender Kevin Long was on the bench for the Republic of Ireland under-21s for their qualifier against Armenia in Dublin but didn't get on to earn his first cap in a 2-1 defeat.
