The 'Morgan on Sport British Football Personality of the Year Award' saw more than 200,000 fans across the country cast their vote recently.

And 'Grezza', the oldest outfield player in the Premier League, romped home by amassing an incredible 167,000 votes and pushing Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs into a distant second and third place respectively.

TV personality and former national newspaper editor Piers handed out a special invite for Graham to receive the award in London last week, ahead of the league game at Fulham.

And at a special presentation ceremony at the Hammersmith Apollo - as the Britain's Got Talent judge prepared to hold the latest round of auditions - he happily handed over the silver trophy along with fellow show judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden.

Arsenal fan Piers, who wished the Clarets all the best for the rest of the season, said: "I am delighted that Graham won because he personifies the genuine, decent, professional footballer."

Piers also chatted to Graham about his career in a special feature for his Mail On Sunday column, insisting: "It was a fascinating interview with the man who has seen his beloved game change beyond all recognition.

"And his humility, common sense, intelligence, humour and obvious dedication showed me exactly why he is so admired and respected that 167,000 votes were cast for him to win the award."

Grezza, who took time out from undergoing treatment to his torn calf muscle to accept the award, said: "I was flattered that so many people voted for me in the poll.

"I'd also like to thank Piers and the Britain's Got Talent team for laying on a presentation ceremony.

"It was great to meet them all, even though my kids were jealous as hell!

"I had to promise I'd try to get them tickets for the Britain's Got Talent final to restore peace in the Alexander household!"
