Rodriguez Is a Temporary Tyke

Posted on: Tue 02 Feb 2010

Burnley boss Brian Laws has allowed young striker Jay Rodriguez to join Barnsley on a month's loan.

Rodriguez moves to the Championship club for the chance to gain further valuable first-team experience ahead of a return to Turf Moor for the run-in to the season.

"It's important for Jay to play some first-team football and we will monitor him closely," said Laws.

"I think he's got a fantastic future and I think he still has a part to play this season."

Rodriguez, who recently returned to action following four months out with a broken ankle, has been restricted to just two Carling Cup appearances for the Clarets this season - including one as a substitute against Barnsley.

The 20-year-old, a product of the Clarets' youth system, scored five times last season, including big cup goals against Tottenham, Fulham (above right) and Queens Park Rangers.

Rodriguez also scored Burnley's goal of the season in a 5-0 league win over Nottingham Forest.

Mid-table Barnsley have seven Championship fixtures in the next month.

And Rodriguez could make his debut for Mark Robins' side against Preston at Deepdale on Tuesday night.
