Burnley Youths made it two wins out of two as they edged out Tranmere Rovers, with second half substitute Tinashe Chakwana scoring the only goal of the game.

Chakwana, pictured above, struck in the 72nd minute after the Clarets had twice hit the woodwork in another impressive performance under new coach Michael Duff.

It was Rovers who got the ball rolling early on, as a free kick just outside the box fell to Rovers striker Tom Croughan, whose effort was over the bar.

Burnley had their first chance of the game as Olatunde Bayode did well on the wing before finding striker Tommy Wood in the box, who shot just wide of Patrick Wharton's goal.

Tranmere then looked to have broken the deadlock as Udoyen Akpan burst through on goal tussling with Scott Wilson. After getting the better of the Clarets defender and looking to pull off a shot past Connor King in goal, Oliver Younger cleared the danger for the home side.

As the ebb and flow continued, the Clarets then came inches away as Mark Howarth played a neat through ball to Dwight McNeil down the wing. The former Manchester United striker whipped a cross into the path of RJ Pingling, whose effort bounced out off the post.

McNeil's deflected effort just outside the box then beat the goalkeeper, however the crossbar denied the winger.

Just after the restart a substitution saw McNeil off for Chakwana, and the Wigan-born winger looked to have made an instant impact, forcing a terrific save from Wharton in goal.

However, not long after Burnley struck first as Bayode's corner - floated into the box - caused all sorts of problems for Tranmere, before Chakwana poked home into the bottom corner.

Tranmere looked to have replied minutes later, as Akpan took advantage of Younger's mistake on the right hand side of the box and squared the ball across an empty box for Croughan to slide the ball past King.

However, Younger redeemed himself for the mistake as he threw his body on the line in front of the shot before Wilson cleared.

BURNLEY: King, Grogan, Younger, Wilson, Mpofu, McNeil (Chakwana 50), Howarth, Shripmton, Bayode, Pingling (Jumeau 80), Wood.
